May half term at Chirk Castle
Celebrate one of nature’s most iconic birds and enjoy a week of outdoor play at Chirk Castle.
- Booking not needed
- Free event (admission applies)
This May half-term, join us at Chirk Castle as we shine a spotlight on one of the countryside’s most iconic and much-loved birds - the curlew.
Following the recent community curlew parade, we’re continuing the celebration with a week of family-friendly activities that honour our feathered friends.
At Home Farm, discover a vibrant display of children’s artwork from the parade. Families can also enjoy an interactive installation that brings the curlew’s story to life.
There's fun curlew inspired outdoor games and activities to keep young explorers busy daily from 24 May - 1 June. Test your aim in a game of skittles to see if your eyesight is as sharp as a curlew’s or enjoy an egg and spoon race with a twist to safely deliver your egg to the ground nest. Design your own birdcall using musical instruments and try to walk on by stilts like a curlew whose long legs help it to wade.
On Monday 26 and Tuesday 27 May, don’t miss storytelling sessions with Jake the Storyteller. Gather the family for magical tales of birds great and small, from soaring eagles to playful robins – perfect for sparking imaginations.
On Wednesday, 28 May, design and make your own bird mask in the garden using card and tissue paper. Drop in anytime between 11am and 3.30pm.
Normal admission charges apply. National Trust members and under 5s can enter for free.
