Keep everyone entertained with a fun family day out at Erddig. With acres of parkland, natural play area and seasonal activities, there's lots to keep your little explorers busy.

Planning your family visit

Here’s the information you need at a glance to help plan your next day out at Erddig:

  • Toilets and baby-changing facilities are located in the Midden Yard. Additional composting toilets are located in Wolf’s Den, our natural play area.
  • Pushchairs are only permitted throughout the house's lower ground floor, which is fully accessible with level stone floors. Pushchairs can also be left at the house's entrance.
  • Please note that dogs are not permitted inside the house, garden, shop, hayloft restaurant, or the Wolf’s Den natural play area. The only exception to this policy is registered assistance dogs.

Wolf's Den

No family visit to Erddig would be complete without a visit to Wolf's Den. Built using resources largely found on the estate, this natural play area offers nearly two acres of wild play space. Soar high on the rope swing, test your balance on the wooden beams and stepping stones, have a go at building a den, cross the bridges or climb up high in the fortress for hours of family fun. There are also picnic benches making it the perfect place to enjoy a snack or lunch in between playing.

Summer of Play

This summer, we’re celebrating the playful childhoods of Philip and Simon Yorke, the last squires of Erddig, with a series of family-friendly activities inspired by their garden adventures. Dress up and take to the lawn to put on a performance, just as they once did. Afterwards, enjoy a selection of traditional garden games, including large dominoes, skittles, and badminton. It’s a wonderful opportunity to step back in time and experience the garden through the playful eyes of the children who once called Erddig home.

Step inside the late 17th Century house to discover 10 displays showcasing some of the Yorke's favourite pastimes, from ice skating to croquet. Can you find them all?

On Mondays, from 21 July to 25 August, get creative and make your own postcards, inspired by a perfect summer’s day out at Erddig. Drop into the Education Room anytime between 11am and 3pm to take part.

Back this summer are the Fine Art Fridays, where you can take inspiration from Erddig’s beautiful gardens to create your own artistic masterpiece on the lawn anytime between 11am and 3pm from 25 July to 29 August.

And don’t miss Storytelling Wednesdays with Jake Evans, filled with fun and imaginative tales for all ages. Sessions are held between 11.30am and 2.30pm on Wednesdays from 23 July to 27 August and last approximately 30 minutes each.

Activities are free, but normal admission charges apply. National Trust members and under 5s enter for free.

Summer of Play is sponsored by Starling Bank.

When the weather is good we’ll be keeping the garden only open until 7pm. Bring a picnic and celebrate our outdoor spaces.
