Keep everyone entertained with a fun family day out at Erddig. With acres of parkland, natural play area and seasonal activities, there's lots to keep your little explorers busy.
Planning your family visit
Here’s the information you need at a glance to help plan your next day out at Erddig:
- Toilets and baby-changing facilities are located in the Midden Yard. Additional composting toilets are located in Wolf’s Den, our natural play area.
- Pushchairs are only permitted throughout the house's lower ground floor, which is fully accessible with level stone floors. Pushchairs can also be left at the house's entrance.

Please note that dogs are not permitted inside the house, garden, shop, hayloft restaurant, or the Wolf’s Den natural play area. The only exception to this policy is registered assistance dogs.
February half term
Become a Winter Wildlife Detective this half term at Erddig. From 14 - 22 February, track down the animal tracks hidden around Erddig's gardens. Sketch what you discover and see if you can match each track to the correct animal. Then put your creativity to the test by building a mini woodland home for a hedgehog using natural materials provided.
On Tuesday, 17 February and Thursday, 19 February, drop into the Education Room anytime between 11am and 3pm to make your own crown inspired by the creatures featured in the trail.
On Wednesday, 18 February, and Friday, 20 February, we're welcoming Nestlings Forest School to Erddig. Join them in Wolf's Den natural play area between 10am and 4pm for a range of nature-inspired activities.
These activities are free to enjoy. Normal admission charges apply. Free entry for National Trust members and Under 5s.
Celebrate St David's Day with us
Join us at Erddig on 28 February and 1 March from 10am-4pm for a lively celebration of Welsh culture featuring live music, children’s crafts, bilingual storytelling and tours with a Welsh twist, in a spectacular setting.
Learn some Cymraeg (Welsh), uncover fascinating Welsh stories in the house, tuck into some delicious Welsh food and listen to the magical sounds of our nation with harpist Hero Douglas on the Saturday and Lleisiau Clywedog and the Denbigh Male Voice Choir on the Sunday.
Activities are free to enjoy. Normal admission charges apply to visit on Saturday, 28 February (members and under 5s enter for free).
To enable more people to access our places and enjoy this special day, all our pay‑to‑enter sites in Wales, including Erddig, will be free to visit on 1 March.

Take part in an Easter trail
Experience an Easter adventure this spring at Erddig.
From March 21 and April 12, make your way along the Easter trail and get involved with activities for the whole family.
Inspired by the animal alphabet cards in the collection in the house, follow the map and complete all 10 activity stations before collecting your egg.
Can you jump over hurdles and be the first to ring the cowbell, or balance a bean bag on your back like a turtle? Challenge your friends and family and see if you can jump as far as a hare or find the hooting owl blind folded. Then complete an egg and spoon race with giant ostrich eggs.
The trail takes place from 10am to 4pm from 21-27 March and 10am-5pm 28 March-12 April and is £3.50 per trail which includes an Easter trail sheet, bunny ears and dairy or vegan and Free From* chocolate egg (*Suitable for people with milk, egg, gluten, peanut and tree nut allergies.)
Wolf's Den
No family visit to Erddig would be complete without a visit to Wolf's Den. Built using resources largely found on the estate, this natural play area offers nearly two acres of wild play space. Soar high on the rope swing, test your balance on the wooden beams and stepping stones, have a go at building a den, cross the bridges or climb up high in the fortress for hours of family fun. There are also picnic benches making it the perfect place to enjoy a snack or lunch in between playing.
* Please note Wolf's Den will be closed from November 3 2025 until 13 February 2026 for maintenance and for conservation purposes to allow the precious tree roots to rest.
Family fun in the garden at Erddig
Enjoy a family walk or tick off several of the '50 things to do before you’re 11¾' activities in the garden. You can easily do No. 8 Spot a fish or No. 31 Make friends with a bug and the garden is perfect for No. 1 – Get to know a tree.
We’re sorry, but dogs are not allowed in the Grade I-listed garden, but they are welcome on the 1,200-acre estate and in the tea garden through to the Midden Yard and West Front.
Family fun around the parkland at Erddig
Enjoy a waymarked walk around the 1,200 acre estate or tick off several of our '50 things to do before you’re 11¾' activities on the estate. You can easily do No. 1 Get to know a tree or No. 5 Skim a stone and the bridges over the river are perfect for No. 19 Play Pooh sticks.
Dotted along the pathways there’s plenty of perfect picnic spots, whether in the woods, by the river or in a meadow.
Dogs are welcome under close control and on leads near livestock, especially in spring when there are lambs. Discover the off-lead zone near Felin Puleston where your dog can scratch, sniff and bound freely to its heart’s content.
