Keep everyone entertained with a fun family day out at Erddig. With acres of parkland, natural play area and seasonal activities, there's lots to keep your little explorers busy.
Planning your family visit
Here’s the information you need at a glance to help plan your next day out at Erddig:
- Toilets and baby-changing facilities are located in the Midden Yard. Additional composting toilets are located in Wolf’s Den, our natural play area.
- Pushchairs are only permitted throughout the house's lower ground floor, which is fully accessible with level stone floors. Pushchairs can also be left at the house's entrance.

Please note that dogs are not permitted inside the house, garden, shop, hayloft restaurant, or the Wolf’s Den natural play area. The only exception to this policy is registered assistance dogs.
Autumn half term
This autumn half term (25 October to 2 November), follow the half term trail, inspired by Erddig Hall's Tribes Room and its grand collection of coats of arms.
Discover brave beasts and magical creatures hidden in the historic shields and enjoy the stunning autumn colour in the Grade-I listed garden as you go.
On 28 and 30 October, get creative by designing your own coat of arms in the Education Room, drop in anytime between 11am-3pm – what animal will you choose for yours?
Halloween at Erddig
This Halloween, 31 October, put on your best spooky fancy dress and get into the spirit of Halloween at Erddig.
Have a go at carving your own pumpkin in the Timber Yard from 11am until 2pm, or from 11am-3pm enjoy spooky shortbread decorating. From 2-4pm make your own spider in the Education Room, or create your own lantern to take with you as you explore the garden at dusk and look for the spooky apple faces in Moss Walk - if you dare.
The garden will be staying open until the later time of 5pm. Normal admission charges apply, free entry for National Trust members and under 5s. Pumpkin carving is £2.50 per person and shortbread decorating is £2 per person. There is no additional charge for the lantern making or spider craft.
Wolf's Den
No family visit to Erddig would be complete without a visit to Wolf's Den. Built using resources largely found on the estate, this natural play area offers nearly two acres of wild play space. Soar high on the rope swing, test your balance on the wooden beams and stepping stones, have a go at building a den, cross the bridges or climb up high in the fortress for hours of family fun. There are also picnic benches making it the perfect place to enjoy a snack or lunch in between playing.

Go on a Nutcracker Adventure at Erddig
This Christmas, step into a world of festive enchantment as you head on a Nutcracker Adventure at Erddig. From 29 November, 2025 until 4 January, 2026, discover this classic tale re-imagined in Erddig Hall and brought to life through beautifully decorated rooms, twinkling trees and joyful music. Outside, a ballet-inspired garden trail invites families to discover the seasonal highlights together.

Enjoy a family walk or tick off several of the '50 things to do before you’re 11¾' activities in the garden. You can easily do No. 8 Spot a fish or No. 31 Make friends with a bug and the garden is perfect for No. 1 – Get to know a tree.
We’re sorry, but dogs are not allowed in the Grade I-listed garden, but they are welcome on the 1,200-acre estate and in the tea garden through to the Midden Yard.
Family fun around the parkland at Erddig
Enjoy a waymarked walk around the 1,200 acre estate or tick off several of our '50 things to do before you’re 11¾' activities on the estate. You can easily do No. 1 Get to know a tree or No. 5 Skim a stone and the bridges over the river are perfect for No. 19 Play Pooh sticks.
Dotted along the pathways there’s plenty of perfect picnic spots, whether in the woods, by the river or in a meadow.
Dogs are welcome under close control and on leads near livestock, especially in spring when there are lambs. Discover the off-lead zone near Felin Puleston where your dog can scratch, sniff and bound freely to its heart’s content.
