Gupton Farm Campsite Consultation

Jump to
Gupton Farm Campsite is situated on Gupton Farm near the big-surf beach of Freshwater West in Pembrokeshire. During February 2026 we consulted on our proposed plans for the campsite.
Gupton Farm
Once a traditional farm, the old buildings now form the hub of a welcoming campsite.
Gupton is a gateway for staying visitors who want to explore the Pembrokeshire coastline, offering an escape for adventurous souls and nature lovers.
Now, as part of plans to provide a more certain future for the site, we are seeking planning permission to make the campsite permanent with increased flexibility alongside habitat improvements for nature.
The current camping provision at Gupton Farm
Since 2015 we’ve been operating Gupton Farm Campsite under an exempted site basis. This gives temporary permission to open from March to November.
The campsite has a bunkhouse (Surf Lodge), an indoor covered area (Hwb), a shower and toilet block and shop, welcoming around 3,000 guests each year. There are three fields which accommodate up to 50 tents and five campervan pitches. The camping fields are on rotation as entire fields, so that the land gets a rest.
Future plans for the campsite
We are seeking planning permission for a permanent campsite at Gupton, opening for the same number of days from March until November and maintaining the same overall capacity (Capped at 100 people on site per night and up to 50 pitches for sale per night).
The key change we are seeking to bring forward is increased flexibility in pitch type. We are proposing an increase in the number of campervan pitches from 5 to 20, allowing for greater flexibility and rotation alongside tent pitches.
This flexible approach would allow the campsite to adapt to seasonal demand while remaining within existing capacity limits.
Our approach to rotating land for pitches would also alter, moving away from rotating entire fields to rotating individual pitches to benefit both the land and guests.
We also plan to apply for permission for five LandPods to be located seasonally. These would create a provision for those without access to their own tent or van who still want to enjoy a similar nature-based experience.
These changes would allow us to better meet existing demand during peak season and provide a viable accommodation option during the shoulder seasons when weather conditions make traditional camping less appealing.
Having guests staying across the season would benefit campsite staff by providing consistent hours and employment.
Also included within the application are proposals to carry out a number of habitat enhancements including planting hedgerows, wildflower meadow improvements and the introduction of bat and bird boxes.
Consultating about our plans
In February we ran a consultation to capture feedback on our proposed plans for Gupton Farm Campsite. This focused around providing an opportunity to feedback online and drop-in sessions at the campsite. The key documents are still available to view below. Thank you to everyone who took the time to feedback on the proposals.

What’s next?
Following the period of statutory consultation during February 2026 we aim to submit the full planning application later in the spring. If the planning application were successful, the view would be to operate with permanent planning permission and the new mix of pitches from spring 2027.
