This year at Tredegar House we’re unwrapping the magic of Christmas for all to enjoy.

Christmas at Tredegar House

Unwrap 500 years of Christmas at Tredegar House, with twinkling lights, a magical atmosphere and over 80 decorated trees. Be transported through the generations and explore how the Morgan family celebrated Christmas, find out how the festive season was spent in the house from Tudor feasts to Victorian traditions and up to the 1950s when St Joseph’s school were here. Find out more about the nuances of evolving tradition, and how Christmas was celebrated through 500 years of Tredegar House.

To start the Christmas season off, look for festive lights throughout the gardens and beautiful decorations in the mansion house from 1 December and embark on a cheery discovery of the Tredegar House Christmas scene.

Opening times:

  • House and Garden open Friday to Monday, 1-4 and 8-11 of December and every day from 15 to 23 December, 11am-4pm.
  • Late night opening until 8pm on selected days.
  • Parkland and tea-room open daily. Closed 24, 25 and 26 December.

Christmas sparkle

Christmas can be a busy time for everyone so why not join us for a quieter get-away to experience the sparkle of Christmas with some festive piano serenades and yuletide spirit. The first weekend, 1-4 December and all weekdays that we are open are perfect for a quiet walk-through Tredegar’s gardens and house, to surround yourself in rich history and the calming festive atmosphere of Christmas.

Family festive weekends

Saturday 9, Sunday 10, Saturday 16 and Sunday 17 December are lively and busy festive weekends for families to get involved with the spirit of Christmas. Join in with Christmas singalongs, festive choirs and look out for two very special guests – Ebenezer Scrooge and Father Christmas, who will be wandering throughout the gardens and House.

Late night Christmas openings

On Friday 8 and 15, Monday 18, Tuesday 19 and Wednesday 20 December we are open until 8pm so everyone will have a chance to enjoy a magical Christmas at Tredegar House, but if these dates don’t work for you, don’t worry, as we will be open until 4pm on our other open days Friday 1-Monday 4 December, Saturday 9 – Monday 11 December, Saturday 16 – Saturday 23 December. The Brewhouse and the Volunteer Bookshop will also be open on our late nights until 8pm, so come along and experience Christmas cheer after hours.

Sero's wreath making workshops

With workshops run by Lucy Coco Floristry, It's time to switch off and get creative with a festive botanical workshop in the gorgeous Laundry building at Tredegar House. Workshops will be taking place on 1 and 3 December, between 10am - 12:30pm or 1:30pm - 3:30pm, and cost £55 per person. Booking essential.

Winter Walks

Wrap up warm and take a stroll through Tredegar’s frosty grounds. Be careful not to slip, take in the surroundings of the formal gardens and immerse yourself in the long past festive celebrations enjoyed by the Morgan family through the centuries.

In the parkland, the lake often freezes at this time of year and on a frosty day the paths glisten making the garden and park a magical wintery wonderland to explore.
