Heritage Open Day

On Saturday 13 September, enjoy a picnic by the river, have an adventure in our natural play area, and visit the walled garden bursting with seasonal plants and produce.

  • Booking not needed
  • Free event

Bordered by the River Wye, The Weir Garden sits within the unspoilt Herefordshire countryside and has many historical secrets to uncover, from Roman archaeology to the 1920s Foster and Pearson glasshouse.

As you enter the riverside garden, discover the countless plant species growing along the riverbank, as well as ancient trees, a rockery, Roman ruins and various native wildflowers. Pack a picnic to enjoy in the riverside meadow, with picturesque over the River Wye and a natural play area just a short distance away where little ones can burn off steam.

In addition to this wild garden, The Weir Garden is also home to a historic walled garden, where the garden team grow an abundance of plants and produce. Unlike a standard walled garden, this one has just three sides to make the most of the sunshine and also features a traditional Foster and Pearson glasshouse.

We've introduced a 1-mile long waymarked walk through the parkland surrounding the gardens at The Weir, where you can see newly created habitats for wildlife, terraced earth from the Iron Age, traces of a Roman road and sweeping views over the River Wye and surrounding countryside.
