Summer of outdoor sport at Aira Force
Ullswater is generally calm and still at this time of year, making it the best time to launch a canoe, a kayak or go paddle boarding. With the heat of the sun lasting into the evening, why not draw out those beautiful summer days by coming when the crowds have quietened down. You can take to the water on your own boat or rent one from hire centres around the lake.
Kayaking and canoeing from Glencoyne Bay
Park at Glencoyne car park and launch your vessel just across the road at Glencoyne Bay. The pebbled beach and relatively shallow lake edge makes it an ideal place to set off on a summers adventure.
If you’re looking for a peaceful sport to do below an impressive Lake District sunset, and one that can provide great photo opportunities, paddle boarding on Ullswater is the way to end an active day.
Wild swimming at Aira Green
Not got any equipment? Try out wild swimming in one of the Lake District’s best outdoor ‘swimming pools’. Park in the main Aira Force car park and Aira Green is just across the road through the wooden gate. Bring along a picnic or pick something up from our tea room to enjoy on the grass by the lake.
Take time out from the water and reflect on the events of the day at our tea room with fresh cakes, ice cream and hot and cold drinks.
