Baddesley Book Fair 2018
Join us from Sat 4 - Sun 12 August for Baddesley's annual book fair. Find your perfect summer read, ideal bedtime story or an old classic to enjoy in the sun.
The origins of the Baddesley book shop stem back to over 20 years ago when an enthusiastic reader and regular visitor left his ‘library’ of books to the Trust at Baddesley. Initially set up in the first aid room, the Baddesley second hand book shop was born. During this time the book shop has raised a staggering £500,000 which is used for much needed conservation work throughout the year.
When the bookshop was set up visitors expressed a great interest and book donations began to arrive steadily. Clive Paterson, volunteer book shop manager explains: ‘When I first came in March 1995, I spent just a couple of days in the bookshop. We realised quite quickly that many of our visitors are great readers and enthusiasm for the shop just grew and grew. From humble beginnings in a tiny first aid room, we have now expanded into several rooms…and I work a full week!’
The book fair at Baddesley is a great opportunity for the bookshop volunteers to showcase the variety of books which have been donated by visitors and genres include science and medieval history to cookbooks and gardening. So whether you’re looking for the perfect summer’s read, something to while away the hours or take on holiday there’s something for everyone’s taste and many of them are as good as new.
Our family tent will also be returning to keep the little ones busy, housing a variety of traditional games and activities. There will also be the opportunity to relax with a cup of tea, a delicious slice of cake and a good book in the Barn Restaurant.
