Baggy Point to Barnstaple cycle trail

Cycling trail

This 11 miles cycle trail takes you through quiet country lane to Braunton where you join the traffic free Tarka trail which follows the Taw River up to Barnstaple. If you want to cycle further the Tarka trail continues back down the other side of the Taw and to the Torridge river and Bideford.

Turn left out of the National Trust Baggy Point car park along Moor Lane for approximately 0.8 of a mile


At the end of Moor lane turn right, heading down the hill into the centre of Croyde for 0.1 miles


At the junction turn left onto St Mary’s Road, following signs for Georgeham for about 0.8 miles


In Forda, when the road turns sharply to the left turn off to the right. Follow Hole Cleare Rd for 1 Mile


At the junction turn right signposted Braunton, follow the lane, you’ll join National Cycle route 27


When you reach the crossroads turn left, staying on cycle route 27


As you come into Braunton, before you reach the main road turn left to join the cycle track behind the fire station. It’s now easy to follow the Tarka Trail the rest of the way to Barnstaple


As you approach the bridge that goes over the Taw, you can either continue on the track into Barnstaple or cycle over the bridge to extend your cycle to Instow and Bideford, before returning on the same route to Baggy Point.
