Preview weekend and invitation to stay and shop Saturday

The fireplace at Barrington Court decorated for Christmas

We invite you to come along on Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 November 10.30am - 3pm to preview the decorated court house, and to see it transformed, and presented with a flavour of a 1920’s family Christmas. You are also invited to stay and shop with us on Saturday 26 after the house and garden close until 6pm.

All of the ground floor rooms and some upstairs will be adorned with lots of twinkling white lights. Inventive, dramatic and stylish seasonal arrangements and room sets will complement the warm wooden panelling, intricate carving, and ancient ham stone.

The garden may be sleeping but its winter beauty will showcase the work of Jo Sadler, a very talented local willow artist. Jo’s sculptures perfectly complement our decorative theme, her instinctive use of willow to create fluid animal shapes are original and truly beautiful. You will see many pieces of her work as you make your way from visitor reception through the garden and to the court house.

Stay and shop Saturday

After the house and garden have closed for the day at 3pm on Saturday 26 November, we invite you to stay and shop with us. There will be fairy lights galore, twinkling as the afternoon light turns to dusk, and the aroma of mulled cider and apple juice will spice the air, creating a relaxed pre-festive atmosphere for you to browse and shop.

We are very lucky to have five wonderful independent artisans, each with their own workshop located at the end of the avenue near the main visitor car park. Barrington Pottery, Jozeph Messar, master woodcarver, Barrington Patchwork, Andrew Clarke, goldsmith, and Windsor Chairs, will all be open until 6pm together with our National Trust gift shop and second hand book barn.

If you are feeling creative you can call in to the book barn and join our drop in workshop, to make a simple willow wreath, to decorate your home. Our talented volunteer Carol will show you how it’s done and set you off, it could be the start of a brand new hobby.

There’ll be a great range of gift ideas to choose from with many unique and hand crafted pieces. Warming festive snacks and drinks will be available to enjoy too, wrap up in warm clothing and bring a torch; there is a short walk between the car park and buildings.
