Christmas is coming to Blickling Estate

The tree lined front drive at Blickling Hall

We’ll be celebrating Christmas throughout the estate to help kick-start your festive season. To make the most of the beautiful tree lined drive and the garden decorated in lights, we're open late, so you'll have plenty of time to soak up the atmosphere. We'll have 50 Christmas trees around the house and garden and 19,000 lights for you to enjoy...

Garden of lights

Daily | 11am - 6pm (Open until 7pm, Friday - Sunday)

The garden of lights will be our main focus this year, with trees lit up in festive colours, and a beautiful display of light on the parterre fountain.  This year, we've extended the experience into the walled garden with a tunnel of light.

Treat yourself to a glass of fizz to start your Christmas season or grab some warming home-made vegetable soup, both available in the walled garden (all available from 3pm).

As darkness falls, lights will be sparkling and you'll be able to warm up with mulled wine and enjoy a mince pie or gingerbread when you reach the lit Temple (available from 3pm).

A decorated house

Friday - Sunday | 12noon - 6pm (last entry 5pm) by timed ticket only.

If you're visiting at the weekend, explore parts of the festive house with seasonal floral designs.  Pick up a bauble as you enter the Great Hall and help us decorate a Christmas tree in the house. Don't forget to make a wish for Christmas!  Please note the house will be a shorter route over the Christmas weekends as conservation work is taking place in some of the rooms.

Costumed interpretation will bring the Christmas past to life, while downstairs, the 1930s cooks will fill the kitchen with festive aromas and you may even get a morsel to try.  Cook, Ethel and Kath will be there from 12 noon until 5pm on both weekends and Mr Dunning, the Butler will be waiting for you, full of festive cheer.

Festive food

Traditional Christmas fayre will be served all day with hot meals including Christmas dinners, one pot winter warmers, soups and light bites.  If you're visiting us at the weekend and a BBQ is more your thing, then head to the farmyard, where you can enjoy Blickling venison burgers as you warm up by the fire pit.

Local artists from the Norfolk Craft Guild will have a variety of pottery, sculptures, textiles, jewellery and stained glass, perfect for Christmas gifts.

The plant centre will also be open in the farmyard with garden gifts, plants and plenty of greenery for you to use in your own decorations at home.

Sacks of Blickling logs or woodchip are available to buy in the farmyard, just speak to one of the team by the fire pit if you'd like to buy one.

Don't miss at the weekend...

The event is free for National Trust members.  If you're not a member yet, you can join on the day.  For non members, usual admission prices apply.

We'd recommend you bring extra cash with you on the day as the horse and carriage rides are cash only, alongside refreshments in the walled garden and Temple.
