Winter guided tours at Bodiam Castle
This winter join us for a guided tour around the castle and discover some of its history from medieval times and more recently in the 19th- and 20th-century and including our new 'Monumental' tour on Wednesdays and Fridays at 12 noon.
This winter during weekdays, entry to the castle will be by guided tour. Tours will be at 11am, 12 noon, 1pm, 2pm and 3pm.
For those early birds who arrive at the castle before the first tour, you can wander around the castle grounds and visit our conservation studio in Castle Cottage before joining your guide outside the cottages just before 11am.
The medieval history of the castle
Tours starting at 11am, 1pm and 3pm will focus on the medieval history of the castle with the emphasis on Sir Edward Dalyngrigge, his role in the construction and a glimpse into what life would have been like for the people living there in the medieval era.
The castle in the 19th- and 20th-century
For those joining our tours at 12 noon and 2pm, the focus will be on more recent history and the men behind the conservation of the castle (Fuller, Ashcombe and Curzon). Illustrating how conservation has changed and shaped the castle and its history, how cultural values have shaped the changing attitudes of conservation and how this has impacted o the castle's history.
New tour for winter 2018
This winter we are introducing a new tour on Wednesdays and Fridays at 12 noon. Our 'Monumental' tour will focus on Lord Curzon and the influence of his time in the British Raj was brought to bear on Bodiam Castle.
His purchase of and subequent conservation of the castle was extremely significant in keeping it here for you to enjoy today.
Our conservation studio
Our new conservation studio is now open and visitors will be welcome to visit either before or after their castle tour. Our team are often working in here to catalogue and restore Bodiam's collection.
