Castle Ward is a haven for dog walkers with so many trails to explore and a dedicated dog exercise field.

Dog-Friendly Cafe

The Trailhead Cafe is usually our Dog Friendly Cafe, but due to the current situation the space is not open. You are welcome to bring your dog into the Stableyard Tea-room when ordering.

Dog Exercise Field

Our dog exercise field is located near our admission hut and main car park. After a walk round the trails you can let your dog safely off the lead to release some energy before heading home. Park in the Overflow Car-park beside our admission hut and head through the gate into the field.

Dogs on leads

Castle Ward operates a dogs on leads policy due to the high volume of people, other dogs, children, horses and cyclists which use our trails daily. Even if your dog is extremely well trained and always comes back to your call, we still reccommend keeping them on the lead as cyclists and horse-riders love our trails and they aren't a good mix with dogs off leads. So as a courtesy to others and for the safety of your own dog around livestock, we ask that you keep your dog on a lead on our trails and ensure you pick up after them too. There are bins provided in all the car parks and at the dog field.
