The Stableyard Tea-room is the perfect spot to stop in for lunch or for one of our freshly baked treats. Grab a coffee after a long walk on the trails or warm up with a hot bowl of soup.
All of the food we sell is made on site by our cook and baker and we use the National Trust cookbook to create an enticing menu for our visitors. Take a comfy seat in our tea-room for a taste of Castle Ward.
Hot lunches and sweet treats
As well as our range of freshly made sandwiches, there's also a range of warming autumnal options to choose from including baked potatoes, homemade sausage rolls and soups.
There are always freshly baked fruit and plain scones on offer with butter, jam and Devon cream to use in whichever order you see fit, as well as a range of tempting sweet treats including the classic local 'Fifteen' traybake. We use the bespoke National Trust coffee blend in our espresso machine to provide a smooth cup of the dark stuff as well as lots of Thompson teas.
This year our gardener and volunteers have been working on cultivating a small portion of the Walled Garden to provide some of our own produce to the tea-room. Some will be added to salads and soups and you'll find some of our vegetables appearing in our autumn specials including:
- red onions in the homemade sausage rolls
- beetroot in the Thai style beetroot and coconut soup
- leeks in the white bean and broccoli soup
We hope to continue this work and keep supplying the tea-room in future - definitely cutting down on food miles!
Kid's meals and ice-cream
There are a few options for kid's meals including kiddie sized pots of fruit and chocolate buttons and smaller sandwiches. We also serve up scoops of the delicious Mullins ice-cream for warm (and cold) days!
We serve a range of options to encompass various dietary requirements, but if you don't see anything on offer, just ask a member of our staff who will be happy to help and tailor what we have to your needs.
If you have any questions or are interested in booking your group in for a lunch or afternoon tea, call Castle Ward on 028 4488 1204 for more information.
