Jayne Woodrow who manages commented, “Our most competitive awards to date, with its varied walking routes, spectacular 18th century mansion and links to Game of Thrones, it’s clear to see why the National Trusts Property Castle Ward came out on top.

Delighted to hear of the area’s achievements, Jacqueline Baird, General Manager, Castle Ward explained, “It is fantastic to see Castle Ward recognised as the best country park / estate in Northern Ireland. There are so many elements to this beautiful National Trust estate that make it a winner. There are over 34km of varied walking trails for visitors to discover, allowing them to explore Victorian gardens, the Lime Tree walk, ancient woodlands, the historic Temple Water and the farmyard (an iconic Game of Thrones filming location). Pair this with a year-round calendar of events for families of all ages and there is something for everyone to enjoy. We look forward to welcoming more visitors in 2018.”

South Down swept the board with awards, with Murlough National Nature Reserve picking up Favourite Nature Reserve, and the Mournes also receiving Favourite Walking Destination. Our teams work hard to care and look after these places, so we’re so pleased that our visitors are enjoying our places and in turn, helping us continue looking after them for the future.
