Mariners Hill Walk From Chartwell
Explore Mariners Hill on this loop trail; an extension of our Westerham to Chartwell trail. The Mariners Loop crosses through National Trust and Squerryes Court land and has been made possible by the kind support and permission of the Warde family.
To visit Chartwell, you will need to pre-book your tickets.

Start:
Chartwell, car park entrance
1
Head west, crossing Mapleton road and up the steps following the fairly steep climb to the first finger post.
2
Take the left hand fork and continue along this path as it runs parallel with Mapleton road, passing a couple of benches with great views over the Chartwell estate and Bough Beech reservoir.
3
The path descends and comes to a four way junction. Turn right here.
4
At the next junction turn left. This path takes you alongside a field with stunning views over the Weald. There are a couple of benches to take a break and enjoy the view.
5
Just past the second bench, turn right up the steps.
6
At the top of the bank turn left between two large beech trees.
7
Turn right at the corner of the fenced field and continue past the stone monument on the right and cross the field ahead of you. The path bends around to the right passing a stone bench and view point. You now enter the woods which in spring are carpeted with bluebells. Stay on the path walking parallel with the road to your left.
8
Eventually the path turns right and at this point you will see the National Trust sign and bridleway sign on the roadside to your left. Drop down onto the road briefly and pick up the bridleway as it climbs the hill to the right.
9
At the top of the hill as the path starts to level out you will come to a left fork by a finger post. Turn left here and continue crossing straight over the vehicle track.
10
At the next fork, marked by a post, keep right.
11
At the next post marker, bear left down the hill ignoring the path to the right. As you descend you will arrive at way marker 2 on the notes. Continue down the hill onto Mapleton road and the Chartwell entrance.
