October half term at the villa

Autumn brings with it shorter days and cooler temperatures, making it the perfect time to wrap up and explore Chedworth Roman Villa.

On Sunday 21 October, you can join David Endacott from the Oxfordshire Bat Group as he gives two special talks. Get up close and personal with real live bats as you learn all about them. The talks will be held at 11.00am and 1.30pm and cost £2 per person. You can book via the "What's On" section of our website, or call 0344 2491895. There may also be spaces available on the day.

Little ones love colouring? Why not have a go at our colouring competition this half term. Print off the picture below and get creative colouring in our bat. Bring it with you when you visit between Saturday 20 and Sunday 28 October for the chance to win a prize. The bats will also be on display in our crafts room during the holiday.

How many bat facts do you know? Every day during the holidays you can have a go at the Big Bat Quiz - pick up a sheet from reception, find the bats hidden around the site and answer the questions.

We'll have craft activities available in the Learning Pavilion over the holidays where you can make a mosaic tile to take home, or try your hand at our paper crafts. Some crafts have a charge due to the materials required. While you're in the pavilion, why not raid our dressing up baskets and fashion yourself as a Roman? It's open to all ages.

Make sure you look out for Chedworths' Romans - they'll be on site during the week and are always happy to answer any qustions you might have. Lady Octavia and her slave Drusilla will be teaching visitors how to use the Roman bath house on Sunday 21 October - it's a lesson not to be missed.

If you're keen to learn more about the history of the villa, join one of our volunteer site guides as they share stories and really bring Chedworth to life.

Remember, the ground might be muddy and slippery at this time of year, so do wrap up warm and bring your boots or wellies with you. We can't wait to see you.
