Visitors pond-dipping in the burn at Cragside, Northumberland

Discover the largest rock garden in Europe and explore Nelly's labyrinth, winding paths and tunnels cut out of a rhododendron forest, a great place to play hide-and-seek with the children.

Childen will love discovering Nelly’s den at the centre of the maze and sitting in the storyteller’s chair. Then head to the play area where youngsters can swing across monkey bars and fly down the spiral slide.

Don’t miss the UK’s tallest Scots pine, which stands at 40m (131 ft) tall. There are red squirrels here too, so head to the Formal Garden to the wildlife hide where you might just be lucky enough to spot one.
