A group enjoys a burial mound tour at Sutton Hoo

If you want to delve deeper into the story of Sutton Hoo then join one of our guided tours, run by the Sutton Hoo Society.

What to expect on a tour

If you would like to explore the Royal Burial Ground with a guide, the Sutton Hoo Society offers free tours daily. Tours last 90 minutes and can be booked with our Visitor Welcome team. Please note places are limited to 40 visitors per tour and cannot be pre-booked in advance.

Who are the Sutton Hoo Society?

The society was formed to support the work of the Sutton Hoo Research Project: an archaeological excavation and research programme that occurred prior to the site being gifted to the National Trust.

Bryony Abbott, Chair of the Sutton Hoo Society has said:

“The Sutton Hoo Society aims to promote our Anglo-Saxon heritage, making it relevant and accessible to all. As both National Trust volunteers and members of the Sutton Hoo Society, our guides lead daily tours of the Royal Burial Ground throughout the year. All our guides are fully trained, bringing Sutton Hoo to life by sharing some of the many stories of this internationally important site.”
