About Low Wray Campsite

This stunning site offers a wide-range of camping options including traditional pitches with waterfront, lake, meadow or woodland views, or camping pods, safari tents, space for campervans and even two suspended tree tents. 

Facilities at the site include a shop, three toilet and shower blocks, laundry facilities and washing up areas.

Leave the car behind for a few days and head out on bikes or on foot along the lakeshore to Claife Viewing Station, or through scenic views to Beatrix Potter's garden at Hill Top, or Allan Bank at Grasmere.

More information

Maximum occupancy: The maximum number of adults allowed in any party is four. This maximum applies whether you book together or separately. The only exception is for official groups such as Duke of Edinburgh or Scouts.

Group bookings: Please complete the group bookings enquiry form you'll find towards the bottom of this page.

Pitches: Pitches are pre-allocated.

One night stays: These cannot be booked in advance but are available on a first come, first served basis on site subject to availability. 

Seasons: The campsite is closed from 21st to 29th December and from 14th January to 9th February for winter maintenance.

Arriving by road: From Ambleside - take the A593, turn left at Clappersgate on to the B5286. Turn left at the sign for Wray. The site is less than one mile on the left.

Arriving by bus: Pick up bus service 505, the Coniston Rambler, from Ambleside or Windermere railway station towards Hawkshead and disembark at Low Wray / Wray Castle road end where you'll have a 0.8 mile walk to the campsite. For timetable information, call 0871 200 22 33 or visit Traveline.

Arriving by boat: You can catch a boat across Lake Windermere from Ambleside to Wray Castle and then it's just a few minutes walk along the lake shore path to Low Wray campsite. See Windermere Lake Cruises for a timetable.

Hiking/cycling between campsites: There are numerous walks and cycle routes between our campsites. Plan your route with OS map OL7 (English lakes, South-eastern area for Low Wray/ Great Langdale) and OS map OL6 (English lakes, South-western area for Great Langdale/Wasdale). You can also use Harveys BMC 1:40,000 map, which shows all our campsites on one map.

Car Free discount: We offer a car free discount if you arrive at Low Wray on foot, by bike, by water or by bus. Please retain any public transport tickets to claim the discount. Ask for details at reception when you arrive.
