Owl haunts in the North West

The view across the lake to the South East Front of Sizergh Castle, Cumbria

Barn owls build their nests in the buildings and around the woods at Quarry Bank Mill, Cheshire, while at The Atlantic Oakwoods in Borrowdale, Cumbria, you might see barn owls, tawny owls and little owls.

Listen out for the distinctive ‘toowhit-twhoo’ of the tawny owl at Friar’s Crag, Borrowdale, Cumbria. At the Sandscale Haws National Nature Reserve, also in Cumbria, you could see barn owls, tawny owls and short-eared owls.
Staying in Cumbria, owls are often spotted at Sizergh and Silverdale, and moving into Merseyside you might be able to spot short-eared owls and tawny owls at Speke Hall.
