11 November 2018 marks 100 years since Armistice and the end of the First World War. To mark the occasion, there will be a unique public commemorative event at St Aidan's beach, Seahouses.

Sunday 11 November 2018, 11:30am - 4.00pm

Millions of people served in the First World War and many left by sea. The National Trust will be leading events at St Aidan's beach at Seahouses  and others across England, Wales and Northern Ireland on Sunday 11 November. Each event centres around the drawing of a large-scale portrait of a casualty from the First World War, designed by sand artists Sand In Your Eye, which will be washed away as the tide comes in. In addition, the public will be asked to join in by creating silhouettes of people in the sand, remembering the millions of lives lost or changed forever by the conflict.

Poet Carol Ann Duffy has been invited by Danny Boyle to write a new poem, which will be read by individuals, families and communities as they gather on beaches on 11 November. Copies of the poem will be available at the beaches around the UK for those who wish to come together or to offer their own personal contribution.

Pages Of The Sea will take place on St Aidan's beach, Seahouses on Sunday 11 November 2018 from 11:30am with a two minute silence. St Aidan's beach is located a 10 minute walk from the centre of Seahouses, to the north of the village heading towards Bamburgh Castle. Please note, access to the beach is via sand dunes.

The public will be welcome to visit from 11:30-16:00 to create their own silhouettes in the sand, recive a copy of the poem by Carol Ann Duffy and see displays by local communtiy groups. The tide will then naturally wash the sand portrait and silhouettes away at 17:00 high tide.

Members of the public are encouraged to use public transport where possible to travel to and from Seahouses on the day to avoid traffic queues and delays to their visit and are are welcome to drop in at any time during the day. Parking is available at the pay and display Seafield Car Park, Seahouses (NE68 7RQ) and the pay and display car aprk at Seahouses harbour . Please note Main Street, Seahouses  will be closed on Sunday 11 November between 10am and 3pm for Remembrance Day services. Local facilities are available in Seahouses.
