Giant's Causeway Green Trail
Wouldn’t it be fantastic to enjoy the often-crowded Giant's Causeway in tranquillity even during main visitor hours? We can offer such a thing.
Views from the Great Stookan to the Giant's Causeway stones
Take a clifftop walk towards Runkerry, located just next to the Causeway with views of the stones and on most days to Scotland and the Inishowen Peninsula in Ireland too. This walk takes you along our land which has significant numbers of breeding skylark, stonechat, linnet and occasional chough. Parts of this walk also follow the route of the Bushmills Heritage Railway.

Start:
Causeway Hotel, OSNI grid ref: C944438
1
Start at the Causeway Hotel, where there's a path on the left side of the building leading towards the cliff path. Turn left and just follow the path towards Runkerry Head. On your right side you'll have fantastic views of the Causeway stones and the chimney tops. On a clear day you can also see right across to Scotland. The Green Trail is compliant with the Disability Discrimination Act and is suitable for visitors with mobility concerns. It is also suitable for prams, buggies and young children.
View across to Scotland
You probably know that the Irish giant Finn MacCool built the Causeway to fight his rival, Benandonner, in Scotland which is just 26 miles (41.8km) from the Irish coast. The island of Islay can be seen on most days and sometimes the air is so clear that even the Paps of Jura are visible.

2
Pack a picnic and stop at the accessible picnic area, the perfect place to take in views of the Giant's Causeway to the East and Runkerry Head to the West. Carry on from the picnic area and you will come to a t-junction. Turn left to continue on around to Runkerry Head or turn right to take the alternate clifftop path back towards the Visitor Centre and Hotel, it should take approximately 15 minutes to return from this point.

3
To your left you will see a Portcoon Cave. Look for dolphins and porpoises, they do like swimming around this little bay. Walkers can continue on around the Runkerry Trail to the left but this is the end of the accessible walk as there are wooden stiles further on the trail. Your return path to the Visitor Centre/Hotel is approximately a 25 minute walk from this point.
