Shaping Nature: February half term at Ham House

Children playing in the Cherry Garden at Ham House

Visit Ham House this February half term (16-24 Feb) and learn all about garden design with a variety of fun for all the family. How does a garden grow? With lots of shapes, patterns and symmetry. Find these in our garden before planning your own garden design project.

Shaping Nature

Sat 16 - Sun 24 Feb, 10am-5pm - £2 per worksheet

Pick up a sheet from visitor reception to guide you through how a garden is put together and explore these elements in our formal garden before designing a garden of your own. The best garden will win a special prize - a day out with our garden team! Have fun and get some one on one tution for how to help your garden grow. We'll give you lunch and a few special treats to take home too.

Don't forget to consider all aspects of garden design whilst creating your own garden project. Here are some hints to help inspire you:

Architectural shapes and symmetry - why not explore the Cherry Garden and Wilderness to see this at its best? The bare trees in winter allow the evergreen shaped hedges and topariy to really shine through.

Inspiring Awe and Wonder: 500,00 bulb flowering - take a walk along the South Terrace at the back of the house and admire the view as our spring bulbs begin to flourish. What colours are you going to include in your garden?

Our working Kitchen Garden - stroll through the vegetable plots and take a look at all the lovely produce we've been growing - what would you plant in your garden which could end up on your dinner plate?

Head to the Education room afterwards to tie all your ideas together into a great garden design to enter into our competition.
