Holidays with a history

Since the 1940’s we’ve provided holiday accommodation. Experience life in a medieval cottage, enjoy the seaside glamour of an Art-Deco villa or uncover stories of the past at a smuggler’s lookout cottage peering out over the cliffs. Working with local craftspeople and historians, we’ve carefully restored over 400 properties with modern features that are fresh and in keeping with its period.

Unique accommodation

We have a wide range of unique and unusual holiday accommodation offering the opportunity for an extraordinary getaway. There's everything from turreted towers, lighthouses, listed lodges, farmhouses, fisherman’s cottages, mansions and even a former observatory. Some even have a claim to fame as the former homes of famous historical figures, or have starred in much-loved films and TV shows.

Unrivalled locations

All our accommodation is situated in stunning locations perfect for your holiday. Many are located in the historic houses, gardens, parkland and on the coastline we care for, from Cragside in Northumberland, to Lizard Point in Cornwall. You'll also find lakeside hideaways, beachfront escapes, riverside retreats and rural getaways that’ll help you get back in touch with nature.

Exclusive access

Book a stay at one of our holiday cottages or bunkhouses and you'll get the added bonus of free access to National Trust places during your stay (excluding car parks). Plus, for some of the properties that sit within the grounds of the estates we care for, you’ll get the added benefit of out-of-hours access, so you can explore the gardens and grounds outside of ordinary opening hours.

A holiday that gives back

When you book with us, the money helps look after the place you’re staying in and contributes to the conservation of other special places too. Every year we restore around ten cottages, keeping alive historic and unique buildings which would otherwise have been lost to time. Your holiday also supports the Trust’s work as Europe’s largest conservation charity.
