Hardwick Hall was a location for the 2019 film Mary Queen of Scots, starring Saoirse Ronan and Margot Robbie. Hardwick stood in for Hampton Court in the film. Key scenes featuring Margot Robbie as Queen Elizabeth I and Guy Pierce as William Cecil were shot inside the hall and on the roof.
