For a coastal getaway, you can’t beat this historic cottage on the Gower Peninsula. Offering a panoramic view of Rhosili Bay and The Worm's Head, Rhossili Old Rectory is the only building on the world-famous bay. Built in the 1800s, the house has an intriguing past – from its role as a base for radar workers during the Second World War to appearing in the hit TV series Torchwood. The spacious, four-bedroom house is full of coastal charm with light-flooded rooms, sea views from many of the rooms and woodburners in both the sitting room and snug. Watch the sun set over the beach from the window seat or the garden.

Make the most of the beach on your doorstep, whether you'd like to rest on the sands, fly a kite, build a sandcastle or head off on a walk along the cliffs as the Wales Coast Path passes behind the house. The beach is a good surf spot and the cottage has storage for surfboards and body boards in the outhouse. The powerful tides and shifting sands once caused many shipwrecks in the area, and the remains of Nordic ship the Helvetia can still be seen on Rhosili beach at low tide, following a shipwreck in the late 1800s.

The cottage is halfway between the two pretty villages - Rhosili and Llangennith, which have pubs and cafés.

There are two other holiday cottages a short drive away, Rhossili 1 Coastguard Cottage (sleeps six) and South Pilton Green Farmhouse (sleeps five, dog friendly).
