Easter family fun at Houghton Mill
Bring the whole family together during the Easter holidays for fun and nature-filled discoveries as you spot the first signs of spring at Houghton Mill.
Cadbury Easter Egg Hunt
Join in the fun on our Cadbury Egg Hunt on Friday 10 or Saturday 11 April. Follow the bunny’s clues around Houghton Mill and Waterclose Meadows and finish your adventure with a delicious, chocolatey treat. Booking is essential and we usually sell out so don't forget to book your timed slot soon!
Build a nest outdoor family craft activity
Help a family of birds build a cosy nest during our bookable outdoor craft event from 1-4pm on 7 April. We’ll show you how to weave together natural materials which can be placed in your garden. Watch as birds come and choose their favourite scraps to feather their nests.
Watch nature spring back to life
Explore our mini nature trail and discover which spring bulbs have appeared above the ground this Easter. You can also try some of the ‘50 things to do before you’re 11¾’ such as build a den, make a home for wildlife or have fun with sticks.
Discover how a traditional mill works through hands-on exhibits
Follow a trail around Houghton Mill and find out some fascinating facts about how a traditional 18th Century flour mill works. Experiment with opening and shutting model locks to see how they affect changing river water levels, heave sacks of grain using traditional pulley systems and turn a traditional hand quern to mill flour yourself.
Experience the sights and sounds of the mill in action whilst we are milling flour on Sunday 12 and Monday 13 April. You can buy a bag of freshly ground Houghton Mill flour to try baking with at home!
Please check the Mill opening times here before you visit.
Stop in for a treat
Houghton Mill tea room will be open every day in the Easter holidays from 10.30 - 17.00 for hot drinks, light lunches and delicious treats.
