About the Exhibition
'Figuring out the Landscape' is an exhibition of paintings by artists Jo Holdsworth and Clare Weatherill. The oil, acrylic and watercolour paintings include landscapes, seascapes and cityscapes by these two well known local artists.
Morden Hall Park offers its visitors a taste of a country estate, with a glimpse of an agricultural and industrial history. The park is 125 acres and is situated in a heavily populated urban area. It is noted for having a diversity of interests within a relatively small open space where its 'wildness' provides a rare sense of discovery of the countryside, compared with generally more manicured city parks.
The paintings in the exhibition reflect the park and its setting within an urban environment. Included in the exhibition are views of Morden Hall Park and other local scenes as well as paintings which capture both urban and natural views around the United Kingdom and beyond.
The exhibition also forms part of the Merton Arts Festival (http://www.mertonartsfestival.org) which takes place in September around Merton, covering the borough with art.
About the Artists
Jo Holdsworth (www.joholdsworthstudio.com) is a London-based artist who lives and works in Wimbledon. Jo paints contemporary figures and cityscapes as well as modern landscapes. Jo exhibits regularly including at central London galleries and in Wimbledon. A recent article in Arts & Collections described Jo’s work as evoking “with uncanny semblance, the comings and goings of everyday life. With seemingly effortless brush strokes and a limited colour palette, she crafts an artistic window into quintessentially British scenes.” Jo regularly undertakes commissions and is always delighted to discuss commissioning ideas. Jo continues to exhibit with the Merton Arts Festival and is also on the judging panel for Young Wimbledon Artists, a scheme designed to promote art and artists for the future in Merton.
