What to expect from your visit

The front door of Mr Straw's House in Worksop

After 18 months of being closed Mr Straw's House reopened in May for visitors. We do have a few changes to the way a visit to the property works to keep everyone safe but also ensure you have a great time whist you're with us.

The safety of our staff, volunteers and visitors is our top priority and there are a number of measures in place to protect everyone.

We have adopted an enhanced cleaning procedure throughout the property, with hand sanitiser at every door on the visitor route. We ask that visitors please wear a face covering if possible, as Mr Straw's House is a very enclosed space.

Bookings are limited to 4 people per time slot and can be booked online. If you wish to book for more than 4 people we would recommend booking consecutive times. Thank you

How to book

Visits to Mr Straw’s House can be booked online, or by phoning the booking line on 0344 2491895. Please note we encourage online booking if possible. Booking slots are also limited to 4 people per time ticket to ensure we can continue to care for the collection but also make sure you get the best experience whilst you're with us. Bookings close before our open day so please do book in advance.

What to expect

The sign at the bottom of Blyth Grove is a white street sign, and the carpark is on the right hand side when you arrive, this is free to park. Please note the entrance to the carpark is 3 meters wide. If you're vehicle is large we would recommend making alternative parking arrangements.

Tours are self-led, following an introductory talk. Self-guide leaflets are available to collect from reception.

Bags, including handbags are not permitted in Mr Straw’s House and can be locked securely in reception. You will keep a key with you to access your bag after the tour; this will be sanitised for additional safety.

We don’t currently provide any refreshment options. Our toilet facilities are available for visitors to use.

Please note that there are several very steep flights of stairs throughout Mr Straw’s House, which may be an issue for those with limited mobility. To discuss your visit, please email us at mrstrawshouse@nationaltrust.org.uk before booking. We do have a virtual tour available if you find the stairs are not possible for you.

We ask visitors to allow  45 minutes to an hour to complete the tour.

We ask visitors to arrive at the start of your booking time to allow time to clean between tours.

We’re really looking forward to sharing the stories of the Straw family with visitors once again. Thank you for your patience and understanding over the last year or so, we are really grateful for the support.
