Interior Worlds: Thomas Chippendale at Nostell

The State Dressing Room at Nostell, West Yorkshire

Thomas Chippendale is one of the most significant and influential designers in English history. 2018 marks 300 years since his birth and at Nostell, we’re celebrating with a packed programme of exhibitions, events and activities.

Chippendale created a new world of interiors for Nostell, supplying the house with over 100 items of furniture, wallpaper and textiles - from a simple chopping block to complete rooms in the latest Chinese fashions.

Nostell’s world-class collection showcases the full range of objects and services that Chippendale designed and supplied to his prestigious client, Rowland Winn, including bespoke one-of-a-kind pieces and a unique archive of letters and invoices revealing the man behind the famous brand.

Uncover the story of the "Shakespeare of furniture" and enter his world of social ambition, dynamic entrepreneurship and world-changing global trade.
