Garden Photographer of the Year competition

New for 2016 a photography competition for all ages. You will need to take some photographs in our beautiful garden to enter. What will inspire you? There are two themes and 3 age categories for a chance to win a Panasonic camera. Explore our tropical 7 acre garden to discover the shots that will have a chance to hang in our exhibition later in the year.

New for 2016 - Calling all photographers!

Overbeck's is hosting our very own Garden Photographer of the year competition with two themes - the beauty of plants and the secret life of a garden. The three age categories are Under 10, 10 to 16 and 16 and over.  There will be plenty of inspiration as you walk around this 7 acre garden full of tropical, rare and exotic plant s and flowers.  The cliff top view of the Salcombe estuary will provide plenty of opportunities for some wonderful photography.

Overbeck’s Garden Photographer of the year Competition runs from 13 February 2016 to 31 July 2016.

How to get involved

The competition has two themes – the beauty of plants and the secret life of a garden.  There are three age categories: Under 10’s/8 to 16/16 and over.  The winners will be framed and mounted for display from the 6 September to 30 October.  Visitors can vote for their overall favourite from the 6 September to 30 October.  The overall winning entry will have their photo used for the 2017 Overbeck’s leaflet.

The winner from each age category and theme  will be chosen by an independent judge – there will be six winners, one from each age category and I overall winner.  The photo will be judged on how well the subject matter captures the essence of the competition.

The competition closes at midnight on Sunday 31 July 2015.

  1. This competition is open to all residents of the UK as per the age categories, except for employees of the National Trust.  Entries from age categories Under 10 and 10 to 16 must have the permission of a person 18 or over.

  2. All information detailing how to enter this competition forms part of these terms and conditions. It is a condition of entry that all terms and conditions are adhered to. Submission of an entry will be taken to mean acceptance of these terms and conditions.

  3. The winning photo will be chosen by an independent judge from all legible photos submitted. 

  4. One image entry per theme for each age category may be submitted.

  5. To Enter: Complete the application form and either email or post the image.  Size up to A4.  Entries to be received by 7 August 2016. Address: Overbeck’s, Sharpitor, Salcombe, Devon, TQ8 8LW.          Email –

  6. Entries will be rejected if they  a. contain defamatory, malicious, indecent or other inappropriate content;  b. include the names, likenesses, photographs, videos or similarb. of any individual without their express permission  c. represent a danger to health and safety; d. disparage the promoter or any other person or party affiliated with the promotion

  7. It is the responsibility of each entrant to ensure that any images they submit have been taken with the consent of anyone who is identifiable in that image or the consent of their parent/guardian if they are under 16 and that they have been advised of the purpose of the submission and that their photograph may be published by the National Trust.

  8. Entrants must ensure that the photographs they are submitting are their own work, that they own the copyright for them and that they do not infringe the copyright or other rights of any third party or any laws.

  9. Entrants will retain copyright and moral rights in their submitted images however, by entering, all entrants: (a) grant the National Trust non-exclusive rights to use the images to promote the competition the images were submitted to or for similar future competitions within a five year period of the winners of the competition being announced; (b) agree that the use referred to at Clause 9(a) above may include publishing, displaying or otherwise reproducing the images (whether on the internet, in the National Trust Magazine, in exhibitions or otherwise) provided such use is for the purposes of promoting the competition or similar future competitions only; and (c) agree that the National Trust may contact them using the contact details they provide to discuss potential use of the images beyond promotion of the competition. Such discussion and negotiation will be independent from the competition and will not affect entrants’ chances of winning.

  10. The winner will be notified by either email or telephone

  11. If a winner cannot be contacted or is not available, the judge reserves the right to select another winner from the eligible entries which were received before the closing date.

  12. The overall winner of the competition will win a Panasonic camera donated by Panasonic.

  13. The prize is non-transferable and there are no cash alternatives.

  14. Prizes can only be sent to UK postal addresses.

  15. Events may occur that render the competition itself or the awarding of the prizes impossible due to reasons beyond the control of the National Trust and accordingly the National Trust may at its absolute discretion vary or amend the promotion and the entrant agrees that no liability shall attach to the promoter as a result thereof.

  16. English law applies and the exclusive jurisdiction of the English Courts shall prevail.
