Treasurer’s House is located in the city centre, on Minster Yard right next to York Minster. York is relatively flat with lots of cycle routes so cycling is a great way to visit. It’s also not far from National Cycle Network routes 65 and the spectacular Way of the Roses coast to coast cycle route that travels through both the red rose county of Lancashire and the white rose county of Yorkshire.

House
Townhouse bought in 1897 by Frank Green, who transformed it into the eclectic show home you see today. Join a tour April - October and on Sundays, hear different stories delving deeper into the history of the house and past residents. Visit during the festive season when the house is decorated for Christmas with a changing theme each year.
Café
Head downstairs to the atmospheric café with seasonally changing menu in a unique historic space. Second-hand books are available for something to read with your brew or take home for a donation. The café is free to drop into on open days.

Running on Saturdays, and Monday to Wednesday, your guide will showcase Treasurer's House as the last private owner wanted. Mr Frank Green built and created this fascinating town house in the centre of York. It was the first to be gifted to the National Trust with its collection, and it's been a popular destination for visitors. Find out more about the man, his exacting ways, his eccentricities and his home and collection. Pre-booking it recommended but walk-in spaces are available on the day, on a first come, first served basis.
Turning back time tour
On Sundays your guide travels further in time. Still exploring the 13 historic rooms, but this time sharing stories of previous residents of this popular postcode and townhouse. Many people of influence, each with a fascinating tale to tell have called Treasurer's House home. Pre-booking it recommended but walk-in spaces are available on the day, on a first come, first served basis.
York Residents' Festival
Last but my no means least is our offer for local residents to discover Treasurer's House. The January festival organised by Visit York is popular but we're closed and the house and collection are tucked up for a conservation rest. However visit for free on Sunday 26 and Monday 27 April to try the different tours on offer - all you need is proof of your York address. Get all the details and booking is highly recommended to guarantee a space.

Second-hand books
In the below stairs area of Treasurer's House, next to the café are book shelves with donations of pre-loved books. It's the perfect virtuous circle, peruse and pick one out if you're having a brew. When you've found something you like, leave your donation and take it home for your next read. If and when you're having a book clear out yourself, donate back for onward sale. All donations support the work of the National Trust, including looking after the places in our care in York.

About Treasurer's House, York
Tucked behind York Minster, Treasurer’s House is not as it first appears. In 1897 it was bought by Frank Green, the grandson of a wealthy industrialist, and by 1900 he had transformed it at great speed into an elaborately decorated town house, ready for the visit of Edward VII. Join a tour to hear about Frank Green’s life and find out how he saved Treasurer’s House and changed it into the grand show home we see today. Alternatively see the historic rooms dressed for Christmas around the festive period.
The award-winning garden is an oasis of calm, offering unrivalled views of York Minster, making it an ideal place to relax or head downstairs to the cafe. Just around the corner is the large high street shop for a wide range of National Trust inspired products.
