Come and explore our gardens and more

Family enjoying Christmas walk in the garden at Saltram, Devon

Just because it's winter that doesn't mean you can't enjoy a great day out. Saltram has beautiful walks in the garden and park, interesting collections on display inside the house and warming treats in café.

The house

Come and explore our impressive collections at Saltram, including paintings, ceramics and wallpaper. We have a year round programme of exhibitions and activities for all ages.

Tours can be booked at the Welcome Centre most days.

The house is open every day from 11am-3.30pm.

Our garden

Lose yourself along secluded walks in Saltram's garden or laze about on the grass. It's an ideal space for all ages to explore, with its expansive lawns, romantic follies, impressive avenues and a working orangery.

Take a tour of the garden buildings, have a cup of tea in the chapel, and play a game of croquet on the lawn in front of the house.

The garden is open from 10am-4pm.

The park

Get out of Plymouth and escape from urban life at Saltram. We have 500 acres of countryside on the city's doorstep for you to explore. Our park is the perfect space for walking the dog, going for a run or cycle ride, or just enjoying the great outdoors.

Whether you prefer grassland, woodland, walking by a river or walking along a beach, Saltram has it all.

Get active

Get outdoors and get active at Saltram. Follow an orienteering trail, go for a run around the park or cycle on one of our loops. You can join a guided session or create your own workout.

Don't miss these…

There are some things which a visit to Saltram just wouldn't be complete without. Here are just a few of the highlights:

  • Why not relax in the sunshine outside our Orangery? Sit down, let the world slow down around you, and listen to the gently tinkling fountain outside.
  • Our country mansion library is surprisingly homey and inviting. With some 4,000 books you can easily lose yourself on one of the comfy sofas imagining the contents of the aging tomes.
  • The walk from Stag Lodge to the stables provides glorious views over the fields, the Sound and Plymouth beyond. Whatever the season there is always something new to see.
  • Furry friends

Our estate is a great place for walking your dog. Dogs are very welcome in the park, and we have lots of bins for safely disposing your dog waste. Only assistance dogs are allowed in the garden.
