Inside Snowshill Manor

With a sense of fun and theatre, Charles Wade took great pleasure in turning his home into a stage for his collection of varied and sometimes unusual finds.

The ground floor of the Manor house is open daily from Wednesday 23 September, 11.30am-4.30pm (last entry 3.50pm), with a one-way route in place. Visits are limited to ensure social distancing and entry to the house is not guaranteed on the day you visit.

An intimate Arts and Crafts garden

The garden at Snowshill is an extension of the manor with mystery at its heart. 2020 marks 100 years since the garden at Snowshill Manor was designed by prominent Arts and Crafts architect, Mackay Hugh Baillie Scott. In 1920, Baillie Scott produced the initial design for the garden for his fellow architect Charles Wade who had recently purchased Snowshill Manor.

Who was Charles Wade?

Snowshill Manor as we know it was created from 1919 by the architect, artist and collector Charles Paget Wade (1883–1956).

" Great has been the delight of forming the collection at Snowshill Manor. To how many interesting, strange, out of the way places has it led."
- Charles Wade
