Planning your visit to Octoberfest
Langdale's Octoberfest is a weekend to celebrate great food, live music and the outdoors. Taking place from 3pm on Friday until late, and 11am until late on both Saturday and Sunday, there will be entertainment for the whole family. Entry into the event is free.
If you're arriving by road, our postcode for the sat nav is LA22 9JU. From the main M6 motorway, leave at J36, then take the A591 from Kendal to Ambleside, A593 from Ambleside to Skelwith Bridge, then the B543 to Great Langdale. The main Sticklebarn car park will be signposted from the road.
Car parking for all visitors will be signposted on the day. The main Stickle Ghyll car park is located to the left of Sticklebarn and over flow car parking will also be available. It’s a pay and display car park (National Trust members park for free). Please avoid the band and crew entrance, which will be clearly signposted.
When to arrive
The Langdale marathon takes place on Saturday, starting at 10.30am. 1000’s of runners take part in the marathon so the roads will be very busy from start til about 3pm. If you’re planning to drive to Sticklebarn on Saturday, we would suggest arriving early to get a space in the car park and enjoy the full days festival experience. The roads should be clear by 4pm.
What’s on over the weekend
We’ve got lots of bookable outdoor activities taking place over the weekend. You can book them online here, or book on the day in the Hayloft at Sticklebarn. There will also be free crafts and films, as well as live music across two stages – see the line-up here.
Be wowed by a selection of Kendal Mountain Festival short films on the big screen showing a whole new world of outdoor adventures. Chase tornados, run in the foothills of the Atlas Mountains, check out icy waves in sub-zero temperatures and mountain bike into the wild. The films are free to watch and no booking is needed. They will be shown upstairs in the Hayloft on Sunday at 4pm.
Where to stay
The National Trust's Great Langdale campsite is now fully booked for the weekend of Octoberfest - there will be no availability for anyone without a booking. Other campsites are available in the valley and there are several holiday cottages in Langdale, Chapel Stile and Elterwater - all within close distance to Sticklebarn. The closest town is Ambleside, 7miles away, where you'll find B&B's, hotels and holiday cottages.
Sticklebarn closures for Octoberfest
So that we can prepare Sticklebarn for Octoberfest, the pub will be closed on Wednesday 16 and Thursday 17 October. It will then be closed on Monday 21 October so that we can tidy up and bring the pub back to it's usual self after a very exciting weekend. We will then reopen as normal on Tuesday 22 October.
