Winter warmer weekends

This winter the house is opening the doors to the Entrance Hall, offering a space to warm up following a winter walk around the garden or estate.

As well as a log fire, visitors are welcome to play board games and spend some time with the Hoare family portraits which line the walls, sharing some of Stourhead’s 300-year history.

There’s a range of walks that are perfect to enjoy, not only a walk around the garden at this tranquil time of year, offering vistas through the leafless trees, and showcasing the foundations of the lake and design of the garden.

There’s also longer and more challenging walks which lead across the wider estate including waymarked walks through the woodlands, on ancient chalk downs, and to Iron Age hillforts - all perfect whatever the season.

The Entrance Hall of the house is open 11am-3pm at weekends until 1 March (except 1 February when the house is closed for a private function) and daily over half-term (17-21 February). The House will re-open fully on 7 March.
