Explore The Workhouse as a family this February half term
This half term there’s plenty to see and do for all the family. Why not explore The Workhouse kitchen garden, get involved in children’s trails and games or we can help you get creative with '50 things to do before you're 11¾.' The Workhouse is a great property to explore with plenty of indoor adventures that won’t be ruined by a downpour!
Wednesday 19 February, 12-4pm, Free
During the holidays you will find inmates carrying out their daily jobs throughout The Workhouse. Go back to school at The Workhouse but don't even think about misbehaving! Education played an important part in pauper children's lives, discover how this prepared them for life outside the institution.
Over the half term there's opportunities to dress up as pauper boys and girls in specially recreated costumes. You can find these in the schoolroom. Why not get your photo taken whilst writing on slate in your best copperplate writing and share it with us on social media?
Family friendly spring trails
From Saturday 8 February and throughout the holidays, Free
Our spring wildlife trail is an opportunity to explore The Workhouse kitchen garden and discover the seasonal wildlife as you complete the activities around the site.
Why not venture into the picturesque town of Southwell and take part in the 'Do it Different' Southwell Shop and Arts Trail? The trail features work by learning disabled artists (including Flower Pod, MenCap Nottinghamshire, Minster View and Caudwell House) of the 'Do it Different' project. Pick up a passport from The Workhouse visitor reception shop or other various Southwell shops, library, tourist information centre before following the trail and collecting your stamps and badge.
