Volunteers' week at The Workhouse, 1-7 June
Volunteers have been at the heart of The Workhouse since it opened to the public 20 years ago and even before. This year we will have volunteers receiving their 20 year long-service medals, together with many others who will receive awards for 5 and 10 year service. From making new friends to developing the skills on your CV, volunteering offers a great opportunity to make a real difference.
During National Volunteers' Week, join the team on Sunday 3 and Monday 4 June when we will be holding ‘Taste of Volunteering’ sessions from 11:00am-12noon. Be inspired by the range of roles on offer and talk to those who are active in the different volunteer teams. Email The Workhouse to register your interest.
Firbeck House, the old infirmary building, is undergoing renovation this year as part of the Re-imagine project. This project will see the infirmary being brought into the visitor experience at The Workhouse. Firbeck House is yet to open to the public but on Saturday 2, Tuesday 5 and Thursday 7 June, Volunteer-led tours will take place and visitors will be able to find out more about those who lived there during the twentieth century.
Through their different roles, volunteers have made an essential contribution to the day to day running of the property. Their skills, knowledge and enthusiasm have enhanced the visitor experience over the years and they are now increasingly involved in shaping the future development of the property.
