Join the team at Upton
Upton’s volunteering community make it all happen. With more than 300 people giving up their time and experience, we have a host of ways to get involved and be part of this special place.
With big ambitions and great excitement we love to make our visitors as engaged and interested in Upton as the staff and volunteers are, it's past and it's future. All of our roles involve sharing our stories with visitors and working as part of one of the many small teams, from chatting about the gardens to polishing up the tables in the restaurant.
You don’t need to be an expert or history buff. We’re looking for genuine enthusiasm for history and a willingness to discover what excites you about this special place so you can share it with our visitors.
Volunteer Open Days - Saturday 11 and Sunday 12 January, 12.30-2.00pm
Come along to one of our Volunteer Open Days in the new year for a chance to find out more about different volunteer roles at Upton, and meet some of our fabulous volunteer team.
Training and social life
There’s a comprehensive induction for each new volunteer, so you’ll be well equipped and confident to represent us. There are opportunities to get involved in research groups, practical tasks and much more once you are up and running in one of the roles.
We have an active social committee who organise regular coffee mornings, trips, talks, Christmas lunches and our annual summer party. Just sign up, as and when you’d like to come to an event.
Flexibility is the key. You don’t need to do a regular day or come every week to volunteer with us. But you can if that suits you. Rostering is self-managed via our online booking system so you sign up for when you can come – it’s entirely in your control. Some roles lend themselves to more seasonal time commitments, while others are available all the time.
We have over 15 different roles at Upton from House Hosts to Welcome Team guides. So check out our current vacancies and see what takes your fancy.
You never know what projects you can help us get off the ground, so if you have a specialist skill and want to use it, please get in touch.
House hosts needed
We are currently looking for friendly, passionate individuals to join our excellent team of house hosts. Our house hosts provide the warmest of welcomes to all our visitors, ensuring they have an exhilarating and memorable time. If you are warm and welcoming, and passionate about Upton House and Gardens, please get in touch.
Everyone is welcome
Our diverse volunteering team comprises people from all walks of life, many of whom are active retired people who aren’t ready to put up their feet yet. Part-time workers with a few hours to spare for volunteering in an area they love also join our team.
We have family volunteers where older children sometimes join their volunteering parents. Many of those parents find that the flexibility of a few hours volunteering mid-week fits in perfectly around school hours.
There are students who volunteer here too, gaining valuable experience before moving on to employment within the National Trust and elsewhere.
Gain more from your volunteering
For our regular volunteers, we offer social events and visits, as well as exclusive behind-the-scenes talks and visits to local museum and heritage places.
