Anglesey Abbey: Made and Remade

Discover the many lives of Anglesey Abbey during this captivating talk in the Lower Gallery.

  • Booking not needed
  • Free event (admission applies)

Explore how a medieval religious site was gradually transformed into a country house and later reshaped by Lord Fairhaven through architecture, art, gardens and collecting. Featuring remarkable stories from the collection, including two paintings by Claude Lorrain and Canova’s rediscovered Amorino, the talk reveals how Anglesey Abbey has continually been made, remade and reinterpreted across more than nine centuries.

This talk with the knowledgeable house guides takes place every Tuesday and Thursday throughout October from Tuesday 6 October, at 12pm and 1:30pm. The talk will last for approximately 30- 40 minutes.

Please note that the upstairs of the house is closed for annual conservation work. The downstairs of the house is open as usual. If you would like to join a talk, please let a member of the welcome team know in the visitor centre on the day.
