Volunteer roles at Dunham Massey

Dunham Massey would not be the special place it is without the energy and dedication of its volunteers. People volunteer for different reasons – to learn new skills, make new friends, become part of a friendly team or gain experience for future employment.

What do volunteers do?

Volunteer roles at Dunham Massey are varied; from visitor welcome roles acting as a room guide and supporting visitors to get the best out of their experience in the house; presenting tours and helping with programmed events; or behind the scenes roles that help to conserve and care for Dunham Massey’s collection and green spaces.

Opportunities for Young People

Whether you're looking to develop new skills, gain experience for UCAS or your CV, or just meet new people and have fun there are oppurtunities for under 25s at Dunham Massey. All while making our work to look after nature and history for future generations possible.

Young Volunteers 

Ages: 14-18 
Meeting one Saturday per month, our Young Volunteers shape the future of Dunham Massey by sharing their ideas and co-creating events. Activities can range from event planning, supporting family trails, social media content creation, activity curation and producing signage. 

Youth Rangers

Ages: 14-18 

Facilitated by our Ranger team, Youth Rangers complete jobs that are key to the protection and conservation of nature and wildlife at Dunham Massey. Meeting every Friday of Trafford school holidays, the Youth Rangers get involved with wildlife surveying, tackling invasive species, maintaining paths or planting trees and many other various activities thoughout the year. 

New Perspectives volunteer

Ages: 16-25

At Dunham Massey, we are undertaking a brand-new project to bring a fresh outlook on our historic house and extensive collection of treasures within it. We’re looking for anyone with an interest in history, passion for creativity and a willingness to share ideas during holiday times. No previous work experience in the heritage sector is necessary.

You might be:

  • putting together a new visitor experience in our House for the start of 2026.
  • creating content for us to share on social media channels
  • Contact with heritage experts to broaden your knowledge, skills and awareness of jobs available for your future career.
