    Start point

    Disley train station, Buxton Road West, Disley, SK12 2AE

    Stage 1

    Arriving from the Buxton direction, follow the painted footpath that runs up the station approach road. At the top of station approach the road meets the A6 and there is a brick bus stop on the right. Arriving from the Manchester direction, follow the sloping path at the side of the platform that takes you up to the A6, turn right at the top of the slope and follow the pavement along the side of the A6 until you reach a brick bus stop on your right.

    Stage 2

    With the brick bus stop on your right, continue along the A6 pavement, past the War Memorial and Ram’s Head pub on your right and follow the pavement round to the right and onto Buxton Old Road.

    Stage 3

    Cross over the entrance road to the Ram’s Head car park and turn immediately right onto Red Lane. As the road climbs gently, follow it round to the right, passing the gates to St. Mary’s Parish Church on your left.

    Stage 4

    Continue up Red Lane as it gets gradually steeper and bare left at the summit, continuing to follow Red Lane. The road continues to climb towards a junction signposted with a Private Street sign denoting that there is no vehicular access to Lyme Park.

    Stage 5

    At the junction, keep right and continue to follow Red Lane. Continue along Red Lane as it starts to descend towards Lyme Park.

    Stage 6

    At the bottom of Red Lane, you will reach the grade II listed gate pillars (piers) at the entrance to Lyme. Using the pedestrian gate, enter the parkland. At this point you can choose to take the minibus from the admissions hut to the house or enjoy a walk over Cage Hill – just follow the waymarked route to your left.
