A Home for Nature

Arlington Court: A Home for Nature is a new exhibition that invites visitors to explore the estate through the lens of Rosalie Chichester, whose deep connection to nature inspired her to leave Arlington to the National Trust.

Rosalie was the last member of the Chichester family to live at Arlington Court, a home her family cared for over more than 500 years. She envisioned Arlington as a place where wildlife could flourish and people could find inspiration. Her photographs, recently conserved and digitised, form a key part of her legacy, capturing a changing landscape and continuing to inform how the estate is looked after today.

Explore the story across the estate

This exhibition spans the whole property, connecting past, present and future. Inside the house, uncover personal objects, stories and insights into Rosalie’s life and her close relationship with the natural world.

Outdoors, follow a photography trail that places her images back into the landscape they depict, inviting you to see Arlington through her perspective.

The exhibition also highlights how her legacy continues today, with a focus on current conservation and nature restoration work across the estate.

Get involved

A programme of activities are running throughout the exhibition, including:

  • Art boxes around the gardens and grounds to get creative during your visit
  • A local school nature photography exhibition on display in the activity room
  • Hands-on workshops and guided walks with local photographer Mark Johnson  (click here to find out more)

You can also explore additional displays at nearby locations including Woolacombe, Heddon and Hartland, revealing Rosalie’s wider connections across North Devon.
