Water and Wildlife: Bringing Back Lost Habitats on Divis and the Black Mountain

Join Dr Raymond Flynn from Queen's University Belfast for an expert walk and talk on Divis and the Black Mountain.

  • Booking essential
  • Free event

The National Trust property at Divis and Black Mountain is a popular “wild space” area regularly visited by people from Belfast and its surroundings. What many may not realise during their visit is that the Divis has been substantially altered by people in the past, resulting in damage and loss of important wetland habitats for wildlife. More recently, work has been started to try and bring back some of these habitats back and further improve the biodiversity. Understanding how water behaves is essential for this to succeed.

A guided walk led by Dr. Raymond Flynn from Queen’s University Belfast will examine the work being done to better understand how water behaves on Divis and how this information can be used to improve biodiversity.

This tour is expected to last about two to three hours and will involve walking across some rough ground in places. People wishing to attend should bring raingear, water to drink and sturdy waterproof footwear.
