Warrior Weekend: Wargaming the Age of the Anglo-Saxons

Join us for an exciting weekend of Anglo-Saxon era war games with miniature model soldiers. Feeling creative? Paint your own miniature model Anglo-Saxon thegn to take home! Part of Sutton Hoo's 'Warrior Weekend'.

  • Booking not needed
  • Free event (admission applies)

Command either a warband of 5th to 7th century Anglo-Saxons or a warband of their mortal enemies in furious table top battle. Enjoy the spectacle of hundreds of beautifully painted model Anglo-Saxon warriors and their enemies as they line up for mortal combat across the wargames table.

All of the games will enable visitor participation, so do feel free to take on the role of an Anglo-Saxon chieftain and roll some dice - will you lead your warriors to glorious victory or ignominious defeat?

Those feeling artistic may join in with our model soldier painting experience - receive a free model Anglo-Saxon thegn to paint and take home as a souvenir of the day! (NB: painting activity subject to availability and suitable for ages 8-adult, courtesy of Gripping Beast Miniatures)

This event is part of Sutton Hoo's Warrior Weekend which also includes life-size warriors from the living history group Wulfheodenas and historic metalworkers The Saxon Smiths.
