Step back in time this summer at Bateman’s as Portals to the Past brings the history of the First World War to life.

Throughout WWI Weekend, visitors can experience live re‑enactments, demonstrations, and hands‑on activities led by a team of uniformed interpreters. Get involved with artefact handling, including trying on period helmets and exploring equipment from the Great War, watch firepower demonstrations, take part in Kriegsspiel and join foot drill with the 10th Essex Regiment. Children can test their skills at Scout School, while talks from the First Aid Nursing Yeomanry highlight the vital role of women at war.
