A Beginner's Guide to Identifying Bumblebees Workshop
Ever wanted to tell your buff tail from your early bumblebee? Join our bumblebee experts in learning how to identify the different bumblebees that can be found at Bateman’s.
- Booking essential
Whether you're already a bumblebee enthusiast or simply curious about these charismatic little creatures, this event is perfect for beginners who want to learn how to identify bumblebees.
Our knowledgeable experts SC Morgan (co-author of Bumblebees: an introduction) and Peter Greenhalf (contributor to Bees of Sussex) will guide you through the basics of bumblebee identification, sharing fascinating insights about their behaviour and habitats.
During this fun, hands-on day, you'll learn to distinguish between various bumblebees and understand their vital role in our ecosystem. You’ll discover the key characteristics to look for, such as colour patterns and body shape, while observing live bumblebees up close in the gardens. You'll also gain valuable tips on attracting and supporting these important pollinators in your own garden.
The morning will be spent learning how to identify bees, there will then be a break for lunch where you will have the opportunity to purchase lunch from the Mulberry Tea-room or enjoy your own packed lunch and in the afternoon, we will walk the gardens and try identifying in the field.
Thursday 10 July, 10.30am–3.30pm. £25 per adult which includes your entry to the property on the day.
