Pull on the boots and dust of the binoculars, it's time to go bird spotting. Join Branwen Munn throughout the year across South West Wales as we explore bird life in Wales.

Grab your binoculars and join Branwen Munn for a year of bird spotting and recording.

Throughout 2026, with the help of birding enthusiast Branwen Munn, we will be keeping our eyes (and ears) open for birds in Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion and Pembrokeshire.

Whether you’re a seasoned birder or just starting out, every sighting counts. We’d love you to join in and tell us about your sightings of our feathered friends across the region. Each month, Branwen will also spotlight a ‘Bird of the Month’ — a special species for you to look out for.

There’ll be plenty of chances to join in along the way, with friendly events, walks, talks and bird-themed fun where you can meet others, swap stories and learn something new.

Birding with Branwen! launch 

Throughout 2026, with the help of birding enthusiast Branwen Munn we will be keeping our eyes (and ears) open for birds in Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion and Pembrokeshire. 

February 

Bird spotting at Dinefwr, Carmarthenshire 

Join bird enthusiast Branwen Munn for our first 2026 bird spotting event at Dinefwr. A gentle mile-long walk through the Dinefwr Deer Park.

You can also join us to just relax and listen to the birds at our ‘Gwrando' space located near the house.

March 

Bird spotting at Llanerchaeron, Ceredigion

Saturday, 21 March, 10am-1pm 

Join Our estate Ranger Claire and bird enthusiast Branwen Munn for a bird spotting event at Llanerchaeron. A gentle mile-long walk through the Llanerchaeron estate.

You can also join us to just relax and listen to the birds at our ‘Gwrando' space located in the outdoor seating area by the café.

This event is free event no booking required. Under 12s must be accompanied by an adult at all times. Please wear suitable footwear and clothing for the weather and bring snacks and drinks with you. Meet by the green visitor building in the carpark at 10am. 

April 

Spring Promenade at Dinefwr, Carmarthenshire 

Sunday, 12 April, 2pm-4.30pm 

Celebrate the coming of spring and the birdlife of Dinefwr with us! 

Promenade alongside colourful birds and spectacularly costumed characters and musicians. Dress up in one of our beautiful costumes and flower crowns or make your own if you fancy. Join in and herald in the longer days and warmer weather.

Free event, no booking required, under 12s must be accompanied by an adult. Please gather at 1:45pm in the Oak Yard.

Gwrandewch ar y Gwanwyn

Sunday 12 April, 3pm - 4.30pm

After all the excitement of the Promenade, listen and reflect on the spring and the birdsong all around you. Use an app or just listen, relax and share the moment. Look for our ‘Gwrando' space at the front of the house.

May 

Bird spotting at Ynys Dinas, Pembrokeshire  

Saturday, 23 May, 10am–3pm 

Join birder Branwen Munn for a birding walk at Ynys Dinas.

With a focus on seabirds such as razorbills, guillemots and fulmars, the full walk will be a 3 to 4 mile graded walk over rough ground including steep gradients.

Come for the day or drop in for an hour or two.

Please wear suitable footwear and clothing for the weather and bring snacks and drinks with you. Meet at Pwllgwaelod beach car park. SA42 0SE, what3words: fuse.sands.legal. The carpark is small and can fill quickly, do carshare if possible. Free event, no need to book, under 12s must be accompanied by an adult.

June 

Bird spotting at WWT Llanelli Wetland Centre, Carmarthenshire 

Saturday,13 June, 10am–3pm

With a focus on estuary and marsh birds such as waders like the Great White Egret, Spoonbill and Green Sandpiper and waterfowl such as the Little Grebe, Shelduck and Pochard, you may also encounter birds such as Kingfisher, Snipe, Finches and Warblers. The paths around the site are mostly level. There are two slopes, but with alternatives for unassisted wheelchair-users.

Come for the day or just drop in for an hour or two. Please wear suitable footwear and clothing for the weather. You can visit the cafe or bring food and drinks with you.

Bird Day at Dinefwr, Carmarthenshire 

Saturday, 18 July, 10.30am–4.30pm 

It's all about our feathered friends at Dinefwr today - a day of walks, talks and creativity.

Birds of the Dinefwr Floodplains

Join Dai and Stuart from the Estate Team at Dinefwr for a walk of the Tywi Floodplains at Dinefwr. An introduction to the birdlife and ecosystems of this special location.

Make and Do activities in the Oak Yard

11am-3pm

Inspired by the wild birds you can hear all around you, join us to enjoy bird themed craft and creative activities in the Oak Yard. All ages, free, drop-in

Craft workshop: Birds of the Mabinogion

12.30pm-1.30pm

Join artist Ami Marsden to make bird masks and wings inspired by the birds in the Welsh stories of the Mabiniogion.

Free workshop, normal admission prices apply, under 12s must be accompanied by an adult. Booking required.

Our guest birding enthusiast, Branwen Munn, is the inspiration behind our 2026 big year of birding events in west Wales.

Branwen's passion for the world of birds is infectious! As a DJ, music producer/composer and mix engineer in her working life, her hobby as a birder is the perfect complement to her professional life.

Join Branwen to hear about her life as a birder and some of her magical encounters with the feathered kind.

Free events, normal admission applies, under 12s must be accompanied by an adult.

August 

The Yo-Yos’ Film Night and BBQ at Dinefwr, Carmarthenshire 

Thursday, 6 August, 5–7pm 

Join the Dinefwr Yo-Yos, a group of young nature lovers, for a bird-themed film and BBQ night in the Oak Yard at Dinefwr.

Everyone is welcome between ages 8 – 18, you don’t need to part of the Yo-Yos to attend, we look forward to welcoming you.

Free, booking essential. Vegitarian and Vegan friendly BBQ.

September 

Bird spotting at Marloes Peninsula, Pembrokeshire 

Saturday, 12 September, 10am–3pm 

Join birder Branwen Munn for a birding walk at Marloes Peninsula. With a focus on wetland birds such as waders like sandpipers or wildfowl such as widgeon, teal and shoveler. You might see birds of prey such as hobby, merlin, hen and marsh harrier as well as chough, warblers and flycatchers. The full walk be moderately difficult. It is a little over 4 miles covering mixed terrain and uneven clifftop paths.

Come for the day, drop in for an hour or two or join us to Just relax and listen to the birds at our ‘Gwrando' space located at Marloes Sands car park.

October 

Bird Day at Llanerchaeron, Ceredigion 

Saturday, 10 October, 11am–2pm 

A day of walks, talks and creativity. On World Mental Health Day, come and enjoy a day of bird themed creative activity and mindful reflection about the natural world. Free events, normal admission applies, under 12s must be accompanied by an adult.

Drop in and make an apple bird feeder.

Join mural artist Jo Swannell for an exciting drawing event all about the birds you can find on the Llanerchaeron estate. Wear suitable clothing for sketching outside.

Mindfulness Walk

1pm - 2pm

A gentle stroll in the Llanerchaeron grounds to encounter the sounds and sights of the season.

December 

Bird Themed Disco at Dinefwr, Carmarthenshire 

Saturday, 12 December, 6–8pm 

Celebrate the close of the project with DJ Branwen Munn. At the end of our spectacular year of birding in west Wales, come and shake a tail feather with birder and DJ Branwen Munn at Dinefwr.

We'll start the evening by celebrating the year and announcing the stats you've been collecting over the months before we hit the dance floor.

Spectacular plumage is encouraged! Wear your best bird masks, feather boas, wings and bird themed splendour.

If you're not a feather flashing bird of paradise however, there will also be a quiet area where you can chat all things avain and compare your sightings.

Free event, free entry to Newton House, no booking required. All ages welcome, under 12s must be accompanied by an adult.
