Behind the Scenes in the Stonehenge Landscape: Archaeology and Nature
Discover the secrets of some of Stonehenge's rarely visited sites and how one of Britain's rarest natural habitats is being recreated and protected.
- Booking essential
Big changes are afoot in the Stonehenge Landscape. In this walk of about 2.5 miles with Archaeologist Dr Nick Snashall and Lead Ranger Keith Steggall you’ll get the chance to peek behind the scenes and discover how we're recreating one of Britain's rarest natural habitats and protecting the archaeology of this World Heritage Site.
Along the way Nick will share the secrets of some of Stonehenge's rarely visited sites. While Keith will introduce you to the array of chalk grassland species, many of which would have been familiar to the prehistoric peoples who built and used these ancient monuments.
This walk includes areas of rough ground and some steep slopes, so sturdy footwear is recommended.
Stonehenge is an open landscape and can be exposed at times, so please ensure you come prepared for both the sun and the rain.
The walk will start and finish at West Amesbury Farm. For directions to West Amesbury Farm: From the A345 in Amesbury, follow Salisbury Street which is a one way street through Amesbury Town centre, turn left on to Church Street which leads to Stonehenge Road.
The entrance to West Amesbury Farm is around 400 metres before the slip road onto the A303.
