Maister House, a Grade I listed Georgian building in Hull’s historic Old Town, is undergoing a major restoration to safeguard its future and enhance its role as a cultural hub. As the only National Trust property in East Yorkshire, this architectural treasure is a rare surviving reminder of Hull’s thriving international trade during the 18th century.
Maister House will benefit from Levelling-Up Funding of nearly £111,000, following a successful application to Hull City Council’s government-backed scheme. This funding will support a a large multi year project by the National Trust with further support thanks to the Wolfson Foundation.

Work has started on the current phase of a long-term restoration plan. This programme of work will ensure Maister House remains safe, functional, and accessible for generations to come.
The restoration of Maister House is a long-term commitment to heritage and community. By preserving its unique character and adapting it for modern use, working collaboratively with other organisations, this Georgian treasure can continue to inspire and connect people for many years to come.
Maister House continues to play its part in Hull’s heritage both for its historic significance and architectural grandeur. However it is more than a historic landmark - it’s a vibrant space for creativity. Eclectic Music, the current tenants of the building, aim to make the property a venue for cultural events, music sessions, and community gatherings.
